"a caterpillar doesn't just grow into a butterfly. a caterpillar must undergo metamorphosis, and a cocoon is where a caterpillar risks it all: enters total chaos, undergoes total rebuilding, and is born to a new way of living. only in taking the risk of entering that inert cocoon can the caterpillar go from dormancy to potency, from ugliness to beauty."

"I didn't know how badly I felt about this life until then. Now when you look at me so kindly, I know for sure I don't like this life. I just want to do something like crawl with you and nibble grass." -- Yellow

HOPE FOR THE FLOWERS by trina paulus

"this is the tale of a caterpillar who has trouble becoming what he really is. it's like myself - like us... a tale partly about life, partly about revolution and lots about hope for adults and for others (including caterpillars who can read)... a different sort of book for everyone except those who have given up completely (and even they might secretly enjoy it)"

first published in 1972, hope for the flowers is an illustrated book with simple words and yet very profound. it can be read in 5-10 minutes. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

"in character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity."

  1. Thanks for sharing that! I love words which are deceptive simple, but that contain fundamental truths. Have you read 'the little prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupery? It's a classic of the genre, and I think you would like it!

  7. wow! thanks for the info (about hope... being in our study hall all this time. nahalata na nuon na wala jud ko nakatambay didto.) i bought a copy of hope... just to read it, and i don't regret owning it; it deserves to be part of the collection.

i was able to read the little prince. there's an online version of it, complete with illustrations. i LIKE it, too!!! i'm gonna write about hope... and the little prince in connection to the caterpillar story. the caterpillar nick is taken from the little prince.

and jonathan livingston seagull! i like that book, too. "get up, get up, flap your wings." "there's more to life. we can fly!"

    thanks for reading!
